The Mollie Holman, AuPS Invited Lecture

The Invited Lecture is named in honour of Prof Mollie Holman AO FAA (1930 - 2010), a pioneering Australian physiologist whose work transformed understanding of smooth muscle and its neural control. A long-standing leader in the field and former President of the Society, she combined scientific excellence with a strong commitment to mentoring and advancing physiology in Australia. This lecture recognises her lasting contributions to research, leadership, and the development of the physiology community

The recipient of the Invited lecture will will be announced mid-year.

AuPS Plenary Session

Prof Sue Bodine

President, American Physiological Society (APS)

In a joint session, Professor Sue Bodine (President, American Physiological Society) and Professor Livia Hool (President, Australian Physiological Society) come together to reflect on the current state of the research landscape. Drawing on their leadership experience across national and international contexts, they will discuss the realities of today's funding environment and why advocacy has become an essential part of a researcher's role. This session offers an opportunity to hear how scientific leaders are engaging with policy, shaping the future of physiology, and supporting the community in navigating an increasingly complex research climate.

Prof Bodine will also lead the ECR welcome workshop on Sunday.

Dr Andy Stapelton

Dr. Andy Stapleton earned his PhD in chemistry in 2012, specializing in nanoparticle-based solar cells. After an industry position and three postdoctoral positions, he shifted focus to supporting academics and researchers worldwide. His popular YouTube channel, with over 32 million views and 370,000 subscribers offers valuable insights and tools to help academics navigate the challenges of academia and embrace AI.

Dr Stapleton will present at the meeting and lead the ECR workshop.
