A PhD position is available to investigate recombinant expression systems to produce insect odorant receptors for structural and functional studies. The successful candidate will conduct their PhD research within the Molecular Sensing team at the Plant and Food Research laboratories in Auckland, New Zealand (www.plantandfood.co.nz) while being enrolled through the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland (www.sbs.auckland.ac.nz)
The 25K p.a. three year stipend is funded from a current FRST grant.
The project will involve using cell-free expression systems currently running on our laboratory and involve the purification of the receptors and their reconstitution into artificial membranes for subsequent studies. The candidate should have a background in molecular biology and biochemistry and a keen interest in membrane proteins such as receptors.
